Teachable Review (2024): Pros & Cons, Pricing, And Features

If you want a comprehensive, honest Teachable review, this is the right place.

But why would you trust me? My friend, I have tested and reviewed uncountable online tools to qualify as a content creator (this is my daily bread).

I have used Teachable for 30 days during their exclusive Free Trial period with a money-back guarantee to test the features and see if it’s worth it. I have been using this platform for more than 3 years now.

This Teachable Review 2024 provides all the details of the platform’s features, pros, cons, and pricing.

What Is Teachable?

Teachable was launched in 2014, making it a relatively new platform, but it has many new and advanced features over its top competitors.

Teachable has grown to host over 100,000 instructors and millions of students in 2024, making it a popular choice in the online course creation business.

Teachable is preferred because it offers a user-friendly interface with comprehensive, advanced tools for creating, marketing, and selling online courses.

Teachable Feature List

Overall, apart from the transaction fees charged in the low-tier plans and slightly pricey plans, Teachable has everything I need to create a website with engaging courses and automate the selling process.

Teachable also offers some basic email tools to take care of sending the default notification emails, such as order receipts, course access, and course certificates.

You can also send broadcast emails to your students. However, teachable provides direct integration with ActiveCampaignAWeberMailChimpMailerlite, and ConvertKit. to promote your courses more effectively.

Overall, I rate it a 4.5/5.

Teachable Pros and Cons

Before I get into the details of the Teachable reviews, here is an overview of the platform’s strengths and weaknesses.

Pros:

  1. User-Friendly Interface: Teachable’s intuitive design allows educators of all technical skill levels to focus on content creation without being confused by complex technology.
  2. Comprehensive Course Creation Tools: From multimedia support to quizzes and drip content, Teachable provides robust tools to create engaging and interactive courses.
  3. Customization Options: Teachable has extensive options to customize your course site to match your brand, including custom domains, themes, and design flexibility.
  4. Integrated Payment Processing: Teachable’s best feature is that it can handle global payments with multiple payout options, like PayPal and Stripe, simplifying the process of selling courses for new creators.
  5. Marketing Tools: Teachable has built-in tools for creating sales pages, offering discounts, custom orders, email marketing, and setting up affiliate programs to help you market and sell your product online.
  6. Excellent Support and Resources: Teachable also provides comprehensive support through a knowledge base, webinars, and responsive customer service with priority live chat support in high-tier plans.

Cons:

  1. Transaction Fees on Lower Plans: The Free and Basic plans have transaction fees, which can add up and strain your pocket.
  2. Pricey for Small Creators: The higher-tier plans can be expensive for individual creators or small businesses without ongoing promotions.

What Do I Like About Teachable?

The reason behind the over 100,000 course creators on Teachable is… It’s one of the most widely used platforms for online education, and I can understand why beginners find it so alluring.

1. The User Experience (UX) Is Excellent

Teachable is very user-friendly and simple to use. Creating an online course may be difficult, therefore Teachable’s simplicity is greatly appreciated.

It’s really simple to upload videos and other content. You only need to click on the left side to access all of the options you require.

An added bonus is that you can modify your course’s thumbnail.

Make your courses stand out by personalizing each video with your name or logo and altering the thumbnail to display it.

2. Easy To Create Quizzes

Making quizzes on Teachable is quite simple. Simply click the “create quiz” button and enter your questions and answers.

Other platforms ask you to scroll through multiple sections and options, but here it simply takes around 10 seconds.

As someone who adds a quiz to every class, this was a breath of fresh air.

3. Outstanding Customer Support

Teachable has some of the best support out there, at least through email. They always got back to me within 24 hours, and the agents were really knowledgeable.

I had some issues with coupon codes and affiliate links at the start, but they helped me fix everything quickly.

I do wish they had a live chat option, though. If I’m paying $119 a month for the service, I want to be able to talk to a real person within an hour, or I’ll be pretty upset.

What I Didn’t Like About Teachable?

I have mentioned a few points below that I didn’t like on the teachable course platform.

1. Teachable Is Just a Course Platform

Teachable course pages look outdated as if they came with Windows 98. The editor is quite simple.

To create a proper sales website, I needed to purchase a custom domain and employ a freelancer. I didn’t even use the Teachable course pages option.

There is no actual email tool either. You just have the choice to “email all students.” I had to use MailChimp first, followed by ConvertKit, which increased the cost and caused more issues.

How bad is this? So, here is what Kartra comes with:

  • Blogging
  • A true page builder
  • Membership sites
  • Funnel Builder
  • Paid marketing funnels
  • Email marketing Helpdesks

Teachable is already more expensive, and you’ll need to pay for all of these additional features.

2. High Transaction Fees

Teachable loves to charge transaction fees. It reflects the Nordic countries of online learning systems. 5% is a lot. Kajabi charges 0%.

Here’s an example: if your course costs $100, Teachable charges 5% and Stripe charges 2.9 percent. They also reserve 10% in case of chargebacks. You will get that back, but you must wait.

So the fees are 7.9% ($7.90), plus a 10% chargeback ($10). So each sale generates $17.90. Even if you receive the chargeback money returned, you’ll still be paying about 8% in fees.

Even just the 5% fee is unfair. If you run a $100,000 business with Teachable, you must pay $5,000 to Teachable Payments. That’s $5,000 you can’t spend on advertising, email software, design expertise, or time to create a new course.

In other words, building a six-figure business using Teachable costs $5,000 more than with Kajabi. Mic drops (but picks it up again because it costs $250 and I need it for a new course).

That’s $5,000 you can’t spend on advertising, email software, design expertise, or time to create a new course.

In other words, building a six-figure business using Teachable costs $5,000 more than with Kajabi. This puts Teachable at a Competitive disadvantage.

The best feature is that you can also add your own logo to the website and choose lucrative thumbnails for your video courses. I really like this feature in Teachable.

You can also track student progress quiz scores and other metrics on Teachable from the course module.

Marketing and Sales Tools

Here is where Teachable shines. While many platforms will give you the tools to create and host courses, Teachable also has extensive features to help you market them. With their tested Teachable templates and customization options, Teachable lets you create high-converting sales pages easily.

Upsells and Product Bundles

Now, here is a good thing about the Teachable digital course platform. You can create exclusive course bundles on Teachable by grouping courses together and selling them at a discounted rate, making it easier for students to buy more courses and learn subjects or skills.

Coupons and Order Bumps

Another thing that you can do to market your course, Teachable, is to offer order Bumps. You can click on the Settings button beside the Product Button on the dashboard to add any other courses, workbooks, coaching resources, or a bundle as an upsell. These will be automatically added to the suggestion when anyone carts the courses, increasing the chances of it being sold online.

Affiliate Programs

Now, if you want to start affiliate marketing for your courses on Teachable, you can also do that. However, it is not available for Basic Plan users.

To start affiliate marketing on Teachable, you need to sign up for the Pro, Pro+, or Business plan.

You can start Affiliate marketing on any course on Teachable, automate the process of generating affiliate links, and automatically track the profits you make.

  • CRM and Automation: Like Zapier for automation, lead management, and customer communication.

Payment Processing

Teachable has automated the payment processing, making it easy for you to sell courses.

It supports multiple payment gateways like PayPal, Stripe, and credit card payments, offering flexibility for your students with flexible payout options, including monthly and bi-weekly schedules, ensuring you get paid promptly.

Teachable Payment

Overall, the process is also suitable for businesses because it is mainly automated.

Drip Content

You can also schedule the release of a part of your lecture in batches after a certain period on Teachable so that the students can first go through the initial parts of the course.

And it’s quite simple.

Simply click on the Section you want to add to your drip content and schedule a drip feed by adding the number of days after a student enrolls that you want the content released and whether you want an email announcement.

That being said, it’s really simple and one of the best things on Teachable.

Your dashboard can provide detailed reports of your sales and details of every new signup, payment, or revenue generated.

These are the top few competitors, but wait—there are more, which I covered in my Best Teachable Alternative article.

I have mentioned all the details you may want to know about the platforms, such as Pricing, features, and Pros and & cons.

Final Verdict: Would I Recommend Teachable?

Now, other tools in the market offer similar features and also have lower price points.

However, the issue is that while some platforms have advanced features, they are not worth the high price, while a platform priced less lacks advanced features.

Very few platforms like Teachable offer everything in one place. If you are looking for a free alternative, the closest an alternative has come is Podia or Udemy.

Teachable also offers 20% discounts and promotions on its platform to attract students.

So, would I recommend Teachable?

Absolutely! Teachable platform is one of the most comprehensive and user-friendly online course platforms.

Its extensive features and ability to handle all aspects of course creation, marketing, and sales make it an invaluable tool.
